Mathematics Achievement = Success (MAS) is a Migrant Education Program Consortium Incentive Grant (CIG) designed in response to substantial needs identified in migrant students in the lead state of Texas and the consortium receiving states of Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Missouri, Montana, New York, and Wisconsin (plus Hawaii participating as a partner state not competing for CIG funds). The goal of MAS is to increase migrant student achievement in mathematics through a multi-state consortium that provides high-quality K-12 curriculum, instruction, assessment, innovative uses of technology, professional development, and parent involvement through interstate and intrastate collaboration.

Beyond offering a high-quality curriculum in both classroom and home-based settings, MAS will achieve success by aligning intensive professional development, technology tools to support the delivery of instruction for teachers and students, and meaningful migrant parent involvement activities and materials to enhance student achievement. Key activities include:

• An innovative, needs-based math program designed to provide the most highly mobile students in grades K-8 with research- and evidence-based curriculum and instruction encompassing the 5 strands of mathematical proficiency and the Focal Points. For secondary students and OSY, support will be provided through the PASS program and through MAS staff who will support them in their educational and career goals.
• An approach to learning mathematics that incorporates techniques shared in common by Balanced Literacy and Cognitively Guided Instruction.
• High quality professional development designed to provide all MAS instructors with the skills and knowledge needed to successfully carry out the project.
• The involvement and training of parents to act as advocates in their child’s learning.
• The innovative use of technology to deliver instruction & provide professional development.
